Gee, I’ve Got A Passion For Passion Pit

11 Nov

It’s true.  I’m hooked on the sound of Passion Pit.  There are so many different sounds ringing through their music that I can’t help but be entranced.  It’s like a roller coaster ride.  Check out the video to my favorite song, “Sleepyhead“…it’s a passionate thrill:

What’s incredible is that the stripped down, acoustic version is just as remarkable, but it strikes a completely different emotion.  From thrill to chill, Passion Pit projects an enticing sound that is all their own.

Such talent and range is hard to come by, so Passion Pit’s tunes are much appreciated.  Check out “Moth’s Wings” for more awe-inspiring Passion.

Gee, Hump Day Goes Pop

29 Sep

That’s right.  Pop sound takes over this week with the sweet and irresistible music of Eric Hutchinson.  I’m attending his concert at Furman tonight, so I couldn’t help but share the love.  This boy can play the piano like nobody’s business, and he’s got a soulful little swagger to his songs that I can’t help but adore.

His top songs from his 2008 album Sounds Like This are “Rock & Roll” and “OK It’s Alright With Me.”  The “OK…” video is simple and could read like a quirky karaoke video, but his smiley expressions make it utterly endearing.

I also dig the tracks “Food Chain” and “Oh!” but those videos aren’t on YouTube…sad day!

This boy is far too happy-go-lucky to resist.  Every song is a smile.  I swear.  I don’t know too much about him, but I’m excited to check him out.  Concert review soon to come…

Gee, I Want a Bike!

15 Sep

“The Bike Song” by Mark Ronson and the Business Intl. is my pick for Hump Day jammage this week!  The catchy little diddy honestly makes me wish that I had a bike.  The upbeat melody blends so sweetly with the innocent bicycle ring and rhythmic electronic beats.  I’ll admit it — this song makes me bop.  It’s just that catchy.  More brilliance, Mark Ronson (love his collaboration with Amy Winehouse on Valerie).

Beyond the addictive sounds in this song, I feel like I can really relate to these playful lyrics as a senior in college.  While the rest of the world is growing up, I’m just gonna ride my bike until I get home and enjoy the scenery as a carefree youngin.  Now if only I had that bike…Oh well.  The thought itself is refreshing enough.  As is the video!  Check it out.

Gee, I’ve Missed Those Weepies

1 Sep

For the past few years, the soothing voices of the Weepies have been rather quiet as the husband and wife have taken some time for family.  But they’re back with a new album entitled Be My Thrill!  And I am thrilled.  Yes, I just went there.

Their 2006 album, Say I Am You was a personal favorite, filled with charming melodies like “The World Spins Madly On” and “Gotta Have You.”

The title track to Be My Thrill fits right in with these sweet classics.  This video, too, is absolutely adorable.  If this doesn’t bring a smile to your face on another joyous hump day, I don’t know what will:

But it gets better!

The brilliant duo has paired with Whole Foods Market, Inc. to promote the album!  Uuuuuhhh…YUM.

Gee, It’s A Hump Day Jam With Foreign Flavor!

11 Aug

While studying abroad in Brussels, Belgium last fall, I spent a great deal of time exploring the city and surrounding areas.  When I wasn’t studying or working, I was scoping out museums, eating at unique restaurants, running through the historic park…there was certainly no shortage of things to do in good old BXL.  But when it came time to relax in Europe, it was difficult to kick back and enjoy a good hour of television.  Most of the channels were in French which my roommates and I did not speak.  BBC News and the music video channels kept us entertained in those rare couch potato moments.

While watching the music video channel, I came across this whimsical and carefree French tune called “Comme des enfants” by Coeur de Pirate.  The sweet music video and soft piano melody won me over.  For me, this song proves that true emotion can be found in the music itself, not necessarily the lyrics.  I don’t speak a word of French, but this song simply warms my heart.

If you’re looking for a more upbeat jam for your Wednesday pick-me-up, check out the remix by Le Matos Andy Carmichael.  A different vibe, but just as endearing.

Gee, It’s Time For Hump Day Jam!

4 Aug

Wednesdays can be pretty rough.  The weekend is in sight, but it is just out of reach.  This can be extremely disconcerting.  You may find yourself snapping at random strangers on the street, and sending spiteful e-mails to ex-lovers…but hopefully not.  Let’s just choose to take the glass half full perspective and think you’re SO close!  At least that’s the route that I’m gonna take.  Join me!

To help get over that little bump of a hump, I’ve decided that every Hump Day deserves a sweet and delectable jam to stay motivated all the way through Friday afternoon.  There’s nothing like a solid song to leave a sweet taste in your mouth through the rest of the week.

Today, that song is “Audience” by Cold War Kids.  The steady beat demands that you tap your feet, and lead singer Nathan Willett’s confident voice carries a contagious energy as he reiterates that, “We are playing for an audience of one.”

So as you struggle with the idea that the weekend might never get here, look within yourself for the strength to keep going.  Do it for yourself, even when no one else is watching and you are your only audience.  Come Friday night, you’ll feel that much better about kicking back with a glass of wine and some reruns of Law and Order, or going out on the town to hit the dance floor with your crazy pals.  Whatever strikes your fancy for a weekend wind-down, you will deserve it.  Let that savory jam linger.
